Boyhood Dream

As I made the walk from the dugout to center field, I thought of the many times I dreamed of making that walk, when I was a boy.

The Twins held a pre-game home-run hitting contest, and our station was doing a promotion that day.

They placed us behind 2nd base, and lobbed some soft-balls our direction. I connected with all of them, but none of them made it over the fence.

I didn’t feel bad since, of the 3 guys that hit, only 1 ball actually went over the fence.

Then the team mascot got up and put 6 of 7 balls over the fence. Pretty impressive in that costume! I’m not making any insinuations… but it may not be a bad idea to put TC through some drug testing.

Here are a couple shots my wife took from the upper deck.

Have a cow

My friends from “Go Fish” asked me to play the part of “The Cow” during their concert at the Higher Ground Festival.

My understanding was that I was to go out and dance a bit, then leave.

I did that with pure professionalism.

After the show, one of the guys thanked me and informed me that I was the first cow to actually dance. Whoops! I guess I went a bit on the showey side.

Since that moment, my co-workers have kept the “Beef” jokes flowing. I think their Bull-oney is udderly silly.

By the way, their new CD “Snazzy” comes out in a few weeks. I was able to get an early copy, and it is already a family favorite. “The Jammie Song” has already become a family tradition at bed time.

iPhone Credit

Apple is offering a $100 instore credit for early adopters of the iPhone.

An iPhone owner in my life offered to donate his credit if I could get 2 others to do the same!

I have sent the following FAQs out to a couple other iPhone owners in my life.

Stay Tuned.

FAQ’s
Q – WHY DO YOU NEED AN IPHONE?
I have worked on coming up with a number of work related reasons. A found a few decent ones including my ability to support other co-workers who consistently ask me to help them set up their new gadgets like the iPhone. I am also in a role to keep an eye on emerging technologies, and the ability to have access to cutting edge technology like this can help me be effective in that role.
However, none of those have been able to justify my expense report and, to date, the college has yet to officially support the iPhone. Push come to shove… I don’t need one. I just want one.
Q – SHOULDN’T I USE THE iPHONE CREDIT ON MYSELF?
A – Yeah, probably. But have you LOOKED at the Apple Store? With $100, you can buy 2/3s of the new iPod Nano, or 3 BlueTooth Headsets. You could pick up 5 car chargers. But there isn’t really much in the $100 range. You will likely have credit left over, or have to shell out a bit of cash. Why not be part of something greater and combine your credit with the credit of others to help… well.. um… Me!
Q – SHOULDN’T I DONATE MY $100 TO A CHILD IN NEED?
A – Yeah, but a needy child can’t do much with in-store credit. Apple has yet to open a store in Burkina Faso.
Q – IS MY DONATION TAX DEDUCTABLE?
A – No. Not really. I mean… I can make out a receipt in Microsoft Excel if you want… and you are free to try and claim it if you want… but it really isn’t tax deductable.
Q – PRICES HAVE COME DOWN, WHY DON’T YOU JUST GO BUY ONE YOURSELF?
A – I could probably do that. But I will still need to shell out nearly $200 to cancel my Verizon account.
PLUS, if this is successful, it would make for a MUCH better story!
Q – WILL MY EMPLOYER MATCH MY GIFT?
A – I doubt it, but you can sure ask!
Q – HOW DO I KNOW YOU WON’T JUST SPEND THE DONATION ON CANDY?
A – You can be confident that your funds…um… Oh yeah, You’ve got a good point…
Q – OK, SO HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
A – I’m not sure yet. Details on the rebate are due out in the next couple of weeks.
