Another Weekend, Another Race

Enjoyed another 5k this weekend (I say enjoy, because I watched this time…)

I did, however, run with my oldest 2 as they did a 1/2 mile.

Here are the registered runners in my family!

Looking all tough like…

Tied

One thing I will try to remember:

When the president asks me to join him for a rose-garden speech, I will ask him what tie he is wearing.

What is Twitter?

That’s a question I get from a lot of friends, when I talk about “Twitter”.

My Twitter status also updates my Facebook Status, so the term occasionally comes up with the “general public”.

Here is a great video that explains it in terms that are easy to grasp.

A bit creepy that the main character (addicted to her phone and blogs) is named “Carla”

Slow But Trying to Get Faster

Slow
Sorry,

I have been a bit slow in my blogging. I think a lot of that has to do with my propensity towards “Twitter”. Twitter.com is a tool that allows me to jot down quick thoughts with no more than 140 characters.

That tends to be how I think. More in short bursts of “genius” as opposed to long multi-paragraph blog posts.

Trying to get faster.

This weekend I am running my first 5K. Katie picked up running last year, and has inspired me to give it a try. I still hate running, but I enjoy the completion! One trick I have found that works for me is what I listen to.

I have a hard time engaging in Music. When I can’t engage, I start to think about my running… not a good thing. Additionally, the rhythm starts to get me in unnatural pacing. I don’t really set my own pace, the music sets it for me.

I have started listening to sermons/messages. It engages my mind elsewhere. AND, a little exposure to the Word can’t help much either!.

Any other tips for a new runner?

Sounds of Africa

central_church.jpgThis should excite any worship pastor!

I was going through some of the audio I recorded on our trip, and came across some of the choir music from our Sunday morning worship at Central Church.

They not only had 4 choir numbers (They may have had more, I can’t recall… I just recorded 4), they had 4 CHOIRS.

I recorded these live in the church service. For a couple of the tracks, I was able to sneak up front and capture it, but I tried my best to do so in a way that wouldn’t disrupt the worship service (a 6′ 5″ white guy is going to disrupt the worship service every time he scratches his nose).

I would LOVE to record this music in a more controlled environment some day. However there is something special about all the sounds in the background.

The church had no walls, and all the sounds inside spilled out, and all the sounds outside spilled in (that sounds like a great illustration for how the church should integrate with the community, but that is a completely different post.

It was beautiful.

Track 1 – Women’s Choir
Track 2 – Men’s Choir
Track 3 – Mixed Choir
Track 4 – Men’s Choir

Hmmm….

Seen at the State Fair:

I’m not sure how they make it, but I bet it tastes good!

Preach The Word

This is the spirituality America is consuming…

Wow…

At least we feel GOOD about being a people separated from God and in need of a savior…
