This was one of those fun, deadline, on top of a deadline, on top of a deadline days.
I am preparing for a trip to one of our Satellite locations to roll out a new service. It is kind of exciting for me. It is a bit like the end of a giant jigsaw puzzle. I was given a giant box with 1000 pieces, a picture of what they wanted it to look like, then let loose to figure out the best way to accomplish the task.
I have made the task work in my “lab”, and now I get to see if I can make it work on the field. While trying to pack up all the batch files and scripts that I need for that project, I was informed that a production project I was working on actually had a deadline of yesterday. The only problem was that no one bothered to tell me. The work order listed it as ASAP, but it was really not yet “P” based on the other projects I was working on. I had a healthy discussion with the project manager about value of a hard date.
So… while I was working on that project (this is now project number 2 on my desk…), I was informed of a web-promotion that was supposed to be running (again…ASAP). Of course, since I work in the communications field, that was not really communicated to me either.
I now have 3 projects due before the end of the day (actually 2 before lunch and one before the end of the day).
While I work through these (which really shouldn’t take too long on their own), our Vice President comes with an urgent need to get a product out to a branch of ours that was currently doing a big event. So there I was, with 4 equally important “ASAP’s”. They all got out. And I even managed to fit a long lunch break in there.
At least I am utilized.
